Dribble, Pass, Shoot...SCORE!
Basketball on the brain! All grades K-5 have been exploring the game and all its components. K-2 students have become expert dribblers and are greatly improving on their passing. Grades 3-5 are also dribbling and passing but focusing more on shooting and small-sided games...putting their teamwork skills to good use! STAY TUNED...January brings the beginning of fitness stations and a new unit on hockey and I'm very excited to announce that we will be starting our own Winter Olympics in class in February as we cheer on our athletes competing in the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Sneaker Troubles...
The weather is getting colder and the season for boots is here. Sneakers are still a must for physical education. Wet boots are hard to be physically active in indoors and make a horrible mess for the janitors. Slippers are also unacceptable for physical education class. I've found what works best is for students to keep their sneakers at school if possible.
The other problem we seem to be having is tying shoes. Shoes with laces need to be tied properly for physical education class. When laces are tucked inside the shoes or not tied at all students cannot do their best work in class and are at risk for an injury.
