 Afterschool Activities

The activities offered vary from year to year.  In 2007-08, they included:

Intramurals:  Inside games, outside activities and swimming dates at the BAHS pool are planned and supervised by the physical education/health teachers.  Intramurals meets twice a week right after school.

Drama Productions occur two times during the school year and include one act plays in the fall and a spring musical production.

Student Council:  Any  student who wants can join; students plan and carry out projects to improve the school under the guidance of a teacher.  Student Council meets once a week after school throughout the school year.

Math Team:  Students in grade 6th, 7th, and 8th can join the math team.  This team meets at least once a week to prepare for competitions.

Sports:  A variety of sports opportunities are offered:
        Fall---cross-country track, football, field hockey and soccer;
        Winter--basketball and wrestling;
        Spring--track and baseball/softball.

Students must try out for basketball, baseball and softball; in all the other sports, students can just sign up and play.  All students who want to participate must have a recent physical examination on file with the school nurse.  In order to continue to play sports, students are required to maintain grades of 70% or higher and appropriate school behavior defined as less than three office detentions.

TEACHER ASSIGNMENT
The teacher assignments for 6th grade will appear on 5th-grade report cards in June.
STUDENT LETTER
In August sixth graders will receive a letter from the middle school, giving them important details such as their room number, their locker number and combination, and what their teachers want them to bring for supplies.
FIRST DAY OF 6th GRADE
The first day is a special one for 6th graders. Students and parents are invited to come to school together that morning. In an assembly, the principal will introduce the 6th-grade teachers and talk briefly about plans for the year. Each team of teachers will also hold a meeting with the families of their students to discuss the curriculum, homework, and expectations for the year.
SECOND DAY OF 6th GRADE
The second day will be a regular school day for 6th graders. Students should bring a pen, a pencil and at least one notebook. They will be given a student planner and a copy of the Code of Conduct. Their teachers will help them learn about and follow their class schedule. The teachers will explain the requirements of different classes.
