General Information
http://www.sad34.net/~sad34/005EB3E3-000F58DD.1/1506_73733_0.gif?src=.PNGPowerSchool Parent Access Request Forms (Acceptable Use Agreement)  must be returned to the school  office before access is granted.

http://www.sad34.net/~sad34/005EB3E3-000F58DD.1/1506_73733_0.gif?src=.PNGParents must obtain a unique login id and password for every child who is a student in the district whose data they wish to access.

http://www.sad34.net/~sad34/005EB3E3-000F58DD.1/1506_73733_0.gif?src=.PNGPlease be patient when waiting for grades to be submitted. It is not realistic to expect teachers to enter grades the same day an assignment was due. Grades will be posted as soon as the teacher’s schedule allows.

http://www.sad34.net/~sad34/005EB3E3-000F58DD.1/1506_73733_0.gif?src=.PNGChanges in your child’s grade may seem to occur rapidly. The grade book instantly recalculates the overall grade based on every assignment entered. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have concerns.

http://www.sad34.net/~sad34/005EB3E3-000F58DD.1/1506_73733_0.gif?src=.PNGTeachers use different grading techniques and policies. Please check with the teacher if you are unsure of the grading policy for a specific class. Some assignments and/or categories may be weighted differently than others.
Therefore simple arithmetic average of grades may not reflect the students actual grade.

http://www.sad34.net/~sad34/005EB3E3-000F58DD.1/1506_73733_0.gif?src=.PNGIf errors are suspected in any assignment scores, the student should ask his or her teacher for an explanation and should be prepared to show the returned assignment in question to the teacher for review.

http://www.sad34.net/~sad34/005EB3E3-000F58DD.1/1506_73733_0.gif?src=.PNGInappropriate use of the parent access component (e.g., accessing records of nonfamily members, or inappropriate communication via the system) will result in loss of access.

http://www.sad34.net/~sad34/005EB3E3-000F58DD.1/1506_73733_0.gif?src=.PNGTechnology staff will create access logins and passwords per request of the school office and will mail information (may be picked up in the office) to a parent/guardian only.

http://www.sad34.net/~sad34/005EB3E3-000F58DD.1/1506_73733_0.gif?src=.PNGPowerSchool Parent access is available to every legal parent/guardian of a student enrolled at Troy Howard

http://www.sad34.net/~sad34/005EB3E3-000F58DD.1/1506_73733_0.gif?src=.PNGParents/guardians will not share their passwords with anyone.

http://www.sad34.net/~sad34/005EB3E3-000F58DD.1/1506_73733_0.gif?src=.PNGAll login information must be received in person at the child’s school or by mail. Parent/guardian may be asked to present a valid photo I.D. so that the Building secretary may validate parent/guardian receiving the information.

Frequently Asked Questions about PowerSchool

Question: How do I distinguish between O's and 0's, 1's and I's?

Answer:  If your id or password contains an O or 0 (oh or zero) or a 1 or I (one or "eye"), it can be easy to enter the wrong letter. Notice that O's are wider than zeroes, and one's and I's are different on the top. Also, please note that logons and password are not case sensitive. Caps and lower case can be ignored.

Question:  Whom should I contact if I have a question?

Answer:
1)Grades  for class assignments during the current semester:
Your  student’s teachers. Note on the Parent HomePage all teachers names are email hyperlinks. Teachers’ email contact info is available on  the school web site at http://www.sad34.net/~thms/staff
2)General  attendance questions, and questions related to absences excused  by parents/guardians  contact School office or email Ellen Sawyer

3)Course lists, teacher assignments: Contact Guidance Office Grade 6 Susan Wolford Grades 7 and 8 Chip Perkins
.

Question:  Do all teachers post grade and attendance information to the PowerSchool  server?

Answer:  Yes. However some teachers may choose to simply post an updated current average every couple of weeks while others will be posting individual assignments with due dates and descriptions.

Question: Scores for a course that were previously showing up on the Grades and Attendance Page suddenly disappear for a particular subject.

Answer: The Grade and Attendance page only shows your student’s currently enrolled courses by section Although the course name and teacher may be same if your child was transferred to another section for scheduling purposes then the Grade and Attendance portion of PowerSchool has no previous information for that section. If you go to the Historical Grades Page you will see all your student’s scores for the year. Once scores are posted in your student’s new section they will show up on the Grades and Attendance screen.

Question:  How often can we expect  grades to be updated?

Answer:  There are many factors that determine how soon a teacher can assess and  return assignments. Essays and research papers take longer to grade than  a quiz. Coaching, club sponsorships, and family commitments can also  affect turnaround time, as well as a teacher's student load. We  encourage staff to post grades every 2 weeks, and we urge students and parents to be patient as teachers do their best to return  assignments and post grades as promptly as their schedule allows.

Question:  Do all teachers use the same grading scales?

Answer:  Yes,  Letter grades are not given, that is why you see the percent grade listed twice.
Grading is as follows:
93-100 = Outstanding 85-92 =Good to Excellent 77-84= Acceptable
70-76 Minimum Passing Grade 3-69= Unacceptable
P=Passing F=Failing I=Incomplete WD= Withdrawn 0 =No grade available

Question:  What is required to connect to the PowerSchool server?

Answer:  Users need the following to connect:
1)A  computer with a connection to the Internet
2)An updated web browser.
3)A login id and password,

Question:  What can I see on the PowerSchool site?

Answer:  Parents and students can access the following information on the  PowerSchool
1) Grades  for current classes, as well as the assignments that make up those  grades
2)Attendance Summary
3)Teacher  comments
The comment is always the “current comment” which remains until a new comment is made or the teacher clears current comments. You may wish to check with your student’s teachers to see how often he or she updates comments. Teachers are only required to make comments at Progress note time. Comments at the end of the marking period are optional

Other options are available and may be added as our staff and community see the need to expand offerings.

Question:  Can other people see my son’s/daughter’s grades?

Answer: No. As long as you protect your id and password, others will not be able to see  your student’s information

Question: What do I do if forgot my login information or my password or id has been compromised?

Answer:  Contact  the school and request your new password be mailed to you or pick it up at office.

Question:  Are PowerSchool logins and passwords case sensitive?

Answer:  No

Question:  How does one get a PowerSchool login and password?

Answer:  Attend an informational meeting or contact your school Principal. Information will also be posted on participating school websites and included in future school handbooks.

Question:  I know that teachers sometimes weight different categories of grades.  How does this affect how a grade is calculated?

Answer:  Some teachers calculate grades by total points, and others use categories such as tests, quizzes, daily work to  organize and give different weights to grades; how teachers weight  grades is  an individual decision. To understand a specific grade calculation,  please contact the individual teacher.
