In the event that your child's class is going on a field trip, it is important for the staff accompanying your child to have all the necessary information and/or supplies to maintain his/her health and safety. The nurses will provide the staff with first aid/emergency supplies and with one dose of each child's prescribed medication if needed during school hours on the trip. If the field trip is longer than a day, then medication issues need to be addressed directly with the school nurse prior to your child leaving for the trip. This includes all medication (prescribed or over-the-counter) that your child will need for his/her health to be maintained during the prolonged stay. Medication that is usually given at home, but would need to be administered during an overnight stay, must have the approved documentation before it may be administered by school staff (see Medication Policy and Forms). This is important both for your child's safety and for educating staff ahead of time about your child's needs.
