On October 8th & 9th the studentsand staff of MSAD #34 will enjoy a special Harvest Lunch Celebration. Ninety-nine percent of the items being served are purchases made directly from Maine farmers. Troy Howard Middle School, Belfast Area High School, BCOPE andDrinkwater are scheduled for October 8th. The rest of the schools will follow on October 9th. Our goal is to serve over 1,300 meals! Students purchasing a hot lunch will enjoy a delicious home cooked mealprepared by our talented cooks. We are encouraging all students and staff topurchase a lunch and taste the difference. (Note to parents, A La Cart will be closed)
The Harvest Lunch is part of a state wide Farm to Schoolinitiative supported by the Department of Education and the Department ofAgriculture Their goal is to increase the awareness of and create support of local Maine agriculture. On September,2007, more than 200 schools participated in the first statewide Maine HarvestLunch event!
MSAD #34 continues make great strides in this area. Ourdistrict is fortunate to have the THMS garden where produce is purchase on adaily bases and served in our cafeterias Currently, apples are being purchasedfrom a Newport apple orchard and served in the cafeterias.
