The essential question that I want the students to derive from this assignment is:

What influence did the Vikings have in developing today’s culture and traditions?

This assignment is consistent with the Maine State Learning results by the fact that

Students "will use the chronology of history and major eras to demonstrate the relationships of events and people".

Students will be able to: "After reading or hearing a folk tale, biography, or historical narrative, retell or dramatize the story with the events in the correct sequence". The Journal in this assignment over the Viking Era will account for this standard.

Students will "learn to evaluate resource material such as documents, artifacts, maps, artworks, and literature, and to make judgments about the perspectives of the authors and their credibility when interpreting current historical events". The websites will contain all of this data and resources.
