and on island monasteries in Ireland. However, Vikings were not simply pirates. Over the next century,
they were to control most of the North Sea and Irish Sea, establishing colonies in Shetland and the Orkneys, in the western Isles of Scotland, Jorvik (York), and in Dublin.
Danish armies put severe pressure on Anglo-Saxon kings such as Alfred the Great. In fact, Anglo-Saxon England was partitioned in 886, with the Danelaw in the east and north,
and the Anglo-Saxons controlling the remainder.

Is it from 1362 as stated on the stone or is it a fake from the 1800s? The solution to the Kensington Rune Stone mystery has been sought for over a century. Through the years, debate has been colored by bitterness and rancor, culminating in the 1940s.

A Great website for viking images and clipart. I used these images for my webquest page. They cover many images for school mascots and logos. A must see collection for any school webmaster.
