More than 60 lighthouses dot Maine's 3500 miles of rocky coastline. The reassuring beacons with their huge reflective lenses shone through the darkness guiding Maine seafarers to safety for more than a century.
Pick one of Maine's 68 lighthouses and write a report about it. Your report should include information about the history location, shape, light pattern, and current status of your lighthouse.
1. Choose a Maine lighthouse
2. Visit at least 3 of the sites below to find information. You may also look for information in some of the books listed below.
3. Write down information that you find about the history, location, shape, light pattern, and current status. You should also include any interesting facts that you find about your lighthouse.
4. Write down your sources as you find information.
5. Write your report using Appleworks or Word or write by hand neatly. It should be at least 1 typewritten page or 2 handwritten pages. Good grammar and spelling are important.
6. Include at least one picture of your lighthouse. It may be hand drawn or from the internet or other source.
