Across the Health Coordinators Desk By Linda Hartkopf Let me introduce myself, I am the School Health Coordinator for SAD 34. The SHC position was created from tobacco settlement money and is a grant-funded position. I work in partnership with the Healthy Living Project, and a variety community organization to provide health and wellness to the all students and employees in the SAD 34 area. I‘d like to use this space as a way to promote fun physical activity and healthy nutritious tips for the whole family. If at any time you have questions, I can be reached at central office at 338-1960. Winter is a great time to get out and try a number of fun outdoor activities like sledding, fishing, skiing or snowshoeing. But if you’re looking for a gym, create one in your own home using toys and household items to motivate the entire family to exercise. Set up your gym in the family room, or anywhere there is space. For extra fun add music while you work out. Here are a few suggestions for a workout: Chair: While sitting in front of your chair, sit … stand…sit ..stand 5 –6 times. Now sit half way down ..stand…sit half way down and hold for 10 seconds. Sit all the way down in your chair and bring your knees up to your chest 10 times. |
