About the BAHS Library
Mission: The mission of the BAHS Library is to help students become effective and ethical users of ideas and information. To that end, BAHS employs a professional librarian and an assistant librarian to maintain the collections, to assist students, faculty, and parents, and to ensure the efficient running of the library.
Collection: The BAHS collection consists of 12,000 books and 500 audiovisual items (cd's, books-on-tape, DVD's, and videos). The MSAD #34 librarians maintain an automated union catalog of all library materials in the district in order to maximize our resources.
Hours: The library is open from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The library is open during break and lunch. The library is closed during Academic Time (10:28-10:45) and once a month for staff meetings.
Passes: Students are encouraged to visit the library on their own as long as they have a pass from their classroom or study hall teacher. They may also vist the library with scheduled classes. Students may use a five minute pass to go to their lockers or the bathroom. Passes are not necessary during break, lunch, or before and after school
Borrowing Materials:
* Books are checked out for three weeks and may be renewed as necessary. Overdue notices are sent to Academic Teams every three weeks.
* BAHS students may borrow books from the other libraries in the District as well as the Minerva system. Minerva gives us access to many of the public and university collections in Maine and is made available to us as a courtesy from the Belfast Free Library. Click here for the Minerva Catalog.
* Current issues of magazines are not circulated. Back issues can be checked out for one week.
* Books on tape and videos are also checked out for one week. The overdue fine for these items is $.25 per school day.
* Students may check out a maximum of five items.
Food and Drink: For the protection of the collection, no food is allowed in the library. Drinks are allowed but must be left at the circulation desk.
