                                        Ames Pre-k Newsletter
                                                October 25,2007
Greetings Pre-K families! This is our new newsletter format.  Please look in your student’s home folder each Thursday for updates on our classroom.

Family
Our first unit is Family.  The children are doing a great job learning about different families and sharing about their own families.  We have been reading and discussing a great selection of books depicting different family situations.

Reading each night
We have been reading every day and discussing the books that we read.  We hope that you have the chance to read each night with your child.  We are starting a book list in each child’s folder.  Please list the books that you read together on this list.  This list should stay in your child’s folder and we will clap for each student once he or she reads ten books!
When reading with your student, ask him or her questions about what is happening in the story or who the characters are (we learned about characters this week!).  Students are eager to discuss books as they read them and this fosters a better understanding of the reading process for them.

Field trip
On November 5th 2007, we will be taking our first field trip!  There will be more news to follow, along with a permission slip.  We will have the opportunity to hear a book share by the wonderful author Tommie DePaola!

Appropriate dress
As the weather changes, it is getting colder outside.  Please make sure that your child has cold weather jackets for when we play outside each day.  Also, layers are great for when we are inside as our room is usually comfortable but sometimes it can be a little chilly or a little too warm!

Thank you to all of you for all of you help and support!  Please continue to send your child’s home folder every day and don’t forget to check it every evening!
        Have a great weekend!

Fun Home Activities
When you are at home or in the car, see how many different rhymes you and your child can come up with.  It is a great skill builder for children and a nice way to spend quality time laughing with your child.  All of the words don’t have to be real words, example, dog, mog, frog, wog, cog, etc,
