Names
Last week we finished practicing the names of all our friends in class.  This week, we practiced our own names.  We practiced rainbow writing our own names and then we would write it ourselves.  We did it four times ~ each time practicing by tracing and then trying our names all by ourselves.  We had to notice tall letters and small letters.  We had to notice if we had letters in our names that went under the line.
Counting Jar
We finished our number books this week.  We practiced writing "8" and counting "8" links.  Then we wrote our numbers all by ourselves on the covers for our books.  We have also been making patterns as we gather on the carpet ~ boy/girl/boy/girl and boy/boy/girl/girl.  Next week we will start working more on making patterns, extending patterns, and recording patterns that we make ourselves.
Fire Safety
The Morrill Fire Department came to our school to talk to us about fire safety.  We learned how important it is to be careful with candles, and that we should never play with matches.  We also learned that we all need to practice fire drills at home the same way we practice them at school.
Apple Tasting
As part of our harvest celebration of Maine farmers, we taste tested three different kinds of Maine grown apples.  We made a school graph.
Colors
This week was "green" week.  Did you know that you make "green" by mixing "yellow "and "blue? " We played our "green "game.  We made ÒgreenÓ frogs.  We drew "green" turtles.  Next week we will have a new color ~ what will it be???
Library
We are the luckiest kindergarten students in the world.  Once a month, we get to ride the school bus to the Searsmont Community Library!  At the library, volunteers read two stories to us and then we get to check out books to take back to our classroom.  The PTG is making this all possible by paying for the bus that takes us there.  We can't wait to go again in November.
Spanish
We met Senor Wilson this week.  Senor Wilson is a retired teacher that wants to help us learn Spanish.  How cool is that!  He comes to our school on Monday mornings and visits with each class.  This week we learned to understand the Spanish word for "sit "and s"tand "and "good morning. " We call him "profe" which means "teacher."  He introduced us to his talking parrot.  We had a great visit with our new "profe."
